Step 2 classes are so much fun! I offer two variations – either are suitable as the next step after the Introduction to Zentangle.  Some people like to do both, it is entirely personal.

  • Beyond the Basics (using colour and creating greeting cards), and
  • Focus on Patterns (adding to your tangle library).

Read on for more information on each option:

Beyond the Basics will…

  • Build on the basics of Zentangle you already know, to help you progress.
  • Introduce additional tangles to add drama and impact to your growing pattern library.
  • Experiment with embellishment, enhancement and colour.
  • Include a fun project which showcases your new skills.

These photographs were taken during “Beyond the Basics” workshops in June 2019.   It was fun to experiment with using tangle patterns along side stencils, watercolour pencils and coloured pens, to produce vibrant and fun greetings cards.

Focus on Patterns will…

  • Build on the basics of Zentangle you already know, to help you progress.
  • Introduce and practice additional tangles to add variety, drama and impact to your growing pattern library.

Depending on what people want on the day, we may also:

  • Experiment with tanglenhancers (tangle enhancers or embellishments) – these include shading, perfs, rounding, auras and highlights.
  • Experiment with tangleations (Zentangle-speak for variations on existing patterns!)

This photographs show an example the work done by three tanglers during a “Focus on Patterns” workshop. You can see they spent time practising patterns which require a little more focus and concentration.  It’s great fun, no pressure and everyone has a chance to suggest patterns they would like to work on.  The practice pages below show work on the tangles ‘NZeppel, Paradox, Betweed, Mooka and Diva Dance Rock n Roll.
